Nina Coomes received her B.A. in Comparative Human Development (cum laude) from the University of Chicago in 2014. At the University of Chicago, she studied the ways in which different populations navigate trauma to form coherent adult identities, ranging from shorter studies of hikikomori as a societal pathology to a senior thesis examining spoken word poetry as a vehicle for resilience in adult identity formation among emerging adults in Chicago. Prior to her position at Harvard, she worked as a news producer for Fuji Television's New York bureau where she covered a variety of news, including the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Her hobbies include running, salsa dancing, and writing poetry. She is from Nagoya, Japan and Chicago, IL.
