Research project: Online Election Campaigning in the U.S.
Dr. Watanabe is an Associate Professor at Hokkaido University’s Graduate School of Media and Communication. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Waseda University, and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Chicago. His research interests include electoral campaigning in the U.S. and American politics. Professor Watanabe is the author of nine books, including Gendai amerika senkyo no henbou [Evolution of Modern Electoral Campaigning in America] (Nagoya University Press, 2016), which was awarded the Ohira Masayoshi Memorial Award. Prior to his academic career, he was a political and diplomatic correspondent for a Japanese network covering various Prime Ministers, the National Diet, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Professor Watanabe’s research at Harvard will examine online campaigning in the U.S. and its implications for Japan.
