Research Project: Party-switching and Party System Change in Japan

Dr. Yamamoto earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. He is currently Professor at the Department of Law and Political Science at Hokkai Gakuen University. His research area is Japanese politics, especially in relation to party realignment since the 1990s. He has published two books in Japanese: Seito-kan Ido to Seito System (2009) on the Japanese party realignment since 1993 to 2005; and Seikai Saihen (2021), a sequel to the previous book and covers cases up to 2021. His research project during the 2022-023 academic year will examine party-switching and party system change in Japan.
