Research Project: Nuclear Disarmament, Greenhouse Gas Reduction, and Emerging Technologies: Lessons from the 1993 U.S.-Russia HEU Agreement

Ichiro Matsuo joins the Program as a Fulbright Scholar (Journalism). He received his B.A. from Osaka University of Foreign Studies, M.S. from University of British Columbia, and Graduate Diploma in Science from Australian National University. As a reporter at Asahi Shimbun, he has served in the Geneva bureau as the bureau’s chief and a non-resident Moscow correspondent (2014-2018), in addition to acting as a correspondent in the Ministry of Environment (2019-2020). He has extensively covered multilateral arms control and climate negotiations within the UN setting. During the 2022-23 academic year, Mr. Matsuo’s research will examine the outcome of the “Megatons to Megawatts Program,” which converted highly enriched uranium from Soviet-made nukes into nuclear fuels for peaceful purpose.
