Fernando Fernández-Arias, Spain, senior diplomat. Until recently, Mr. Fernández-Arias served as political coordinator at the Spanish Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. Previously, he served as a transatlantic diplomatic fellow at the State Department (Western Hemisphere Affairs) in Washington DC. Other previous positions include director for international relations at Spain’s Ministry for Gender Equality and director for Human Rights at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. He holds a law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as a bachelor of arts in contemporary humanities and a diploma on French law from Université Paris XI. While at Harvard he is pursuing research on the role of the UN Security Council in promoting and protecting human rights.
